In March 2024, it was announced that Tyson would be making his ring return against Jake Paul in a heavyweight bout on July 20, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. On April 29, 2024, it was announced that the fight would be sanctioned as a professional boxing match by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR). On May 26, 2024, Tyson suffered an ulcer flare aboard a plane. On May 31, 2024, it was announced that the fight was postponed per medical advice from Tyson’s doctor, allowing him to recover from his ulcer flareup. On June 7, 2024, it was announced that the fight will take place at the same arena on November 15, 2024.
When did Mike Tyson get his tattoo and showed it to the public for the first time, it elicited a wide range of reactions. Some praised the boldness and uniqueness of the design, box while others criticized it as unconventional or even controversial.
After a horrific childhood in some of the more unsavoury neighbourhoods of New York, Tyson was taken under the wing of venerable boxing trainer Cus D’Amato, who had guided Floyd Patterson to the world heavyweight title twice.
The fight was a split draw and the three former WBC Champion judges scored the fight as follows: Chad Dawson (76–76 draw), Christy Martin (79–73 for Tyson), and Vinny Pazienza (76–80 for Jones). Compubox numbers showed that Tyson outlanded Jones by a wide margin, and sportswriter Dan Rafael described Pazienza’s scorecard as ‘pure insanity’.
The symbolism of the Mike Tyson Mao tattoo is deeply personal and connected to his personality and experiences. While the exact meaning may vary, the tattoo is often interpreted as a symbol of strength, resilience and tribal heritage.
On September 24, 2007, Tyson pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and driving under the influence. He was convicted of these charges in November 2007 and sentenced to 24 hours in jail. After his release, he was ordered to serve three years’ probation and complete 360 hours of community service. Prosecutors had requested a year-long jail sentence, but the judge praised Tyson for seeking help with his drug problems. On November 11, 2009, Tyson was arrested after getting into a scuffle at Los Angeles International airport with a photographer. No charges were filed.
Fans of the Brooklyn native were shocked to see photos of him in a wheelchair and using a walking stick at a Miami airport in August 2022. That year, Mike revealed that he lives with sciatica, which is a “pain that travels along the path of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve travels from the buttocks and down each leg,” per Mayo Clinic. “Sciatica most often happens when a herniated disk or an overgrowth of bone puts pressure on the lumbar spine nerve roots.” The condition can cause inflammation, pain and a numbness in a patient due to the nerve pain.

In September 2006, a year after his retirement, Tyson announced that he would embark on a world tour of exhibition fights billed as “Mike Tyson’s World Tour” in a bid to overcome the debt he was in at the time. His first bout lasted for four rounds and took place at the Chevrolet Centre in Youngstown, Ohio, on October 20, 2006, against former professional boxer and Tyson’s sparring partner Corey Sanders. With 6,000 fans in attendance, the fight failed to live up to expectations and saw the crowd often booing with displeasure. This would be the only exhibition fight of the tour to take place.
“Here’s another intriguing fight in a whole series of 2024 interesting matchups. Two big old guys, two big punchers. This could go a number of ways, and I’m hoping its not a boring, plodding affair. My feeling is that it will go to the other side of the coin. It should provide tense, edge-of-the-seat stuff because of the thudding power each possesses. I would not be at all surprised to see each man knocked down in this one. Wilder looked like he was seriously deteriorating in the match against Parker, who boxed smartly. However, Parker has a whole different skillset than Zhang, so I don’t see the Chinese star being able to use the same strategy. In trying to visualize, I see both landing power shots, but Zhang better able to absorb, and eventually knocking out Wilder somewhere around the eighth round.”
